Choosing a toy for your precious dog can be a serious matter.  There are so many toys out there that could harm your pooch.  These tips are intended to help keep you dogs safe if you make the right choices.   Usually the things that may attract your dog might be the most harmful.  We will also try to explain the choices you do have.

1.  No matter what you may choose, just be sure that it is not small enough for your dog to swallow.  Also beware of protruding pieces that your dog could bite off and swallow.  There are many toys that could become a choking hazard.  Avoid any toy that has any possibility of being ingested.

2.  Beware of toys that can scratch your dog's eyes or can splinter.

3.  If you have a dog which can rip apart his or her toys, you may want to avoid plush toys.  The dog could swallow the sqeaker or the stuffing of the toy.  If your dog is gentle, then plush toys with or without a squeaker would be ideal.  My dogs absolutely love any plush toy they can get their paws on.  It helps if the plush toy is machine washable.

4.  A big caution to advise you of is rawhide or hard treats which the dog might like to chew pieces off of.  These can easily get lodged in the dog's throat.

Here are our recommendations regarding toys.

For active dogs, hard rubber toys which they cannot destroy are great if that is what your dog likes. 

Dog Treat Toys can be filled with broken up treats which will keep the dog occupied for hours.

Soft stuffed toys are comforting to the dogs and are something that won't harm their teeth.  Make sure they are small enough for the dog to carry around.   Some dogs like their toys with squeakers or other sounds.  Again, being washable is a must.  The toys that come with sounds can be washed if the sound device can be removed.

Rope toys are good for dogs who like to play fetch, or tug-of-war.  Again, make sure it is small enough for the dog to carry.

It's always good to buy interactive toys to get the most satisfaction for your dog.  This will reduce his stress due to isolation, confinement, or boredom.   It will curb destructive behavior and make your dog happier.

Just like humans, your dog will get tired of the same toy all the time.  Get several different toys for your dog to play with.
